Get Involved!

Life with dogs is a unique way to follow another species close up. Communicating with
them and sharing important moments with them is a great pleasure and at the same time gives the opportunity to learn not only about the animals, but also about our own humanity.

Smooth Collie is energetic, active breed, which is at its best when it gets to work with humans. It is an open, friendly and always ready for action with you. For my puppies I'm looking for sporty people who have a genuine interest in the breed. I do not have specific requirements for buyers, the sale of each puppy is an individual progress. I hope people would have knowledge of the breed as well as a deeper reflection on the breed's characteristics. Smooth Collie is an active working dog, which does not necessarily apply to every family.  I hope that people would understand my values and principles, so that the future cooperation would be as easy as possible.

Lifedream Ringside Gossip summer 2008

In the future I would like to find people who would be interested in possibly hiring me their bitch. By this I mean that I would like to cut back the amount of the dogs placed with breeding terms, and I would be open to the chance of choosing the best dog in breeding from the particular litter. In many cases, a puppy looks promising at the age of 6 weeks, but as they become adult some of the siblings can be even better. By finding active and cooperative owners I am hoping to be able to abandon replacing dogs and move to a more holistic dog breeding, where I would have the opportunity to select really the best dog of the litter for further processing. If you are interested in such an arrangement, please feel free to contact me!

For me, life with dogs has always meant the opportunity to learn about dogs and their social life. I'm trying systematically grow the best possible dogs, and at the same time to have fun at dog shows, agility, and other hobbies. I hope co-operation from the puppy owners so that I can carry out my own breeding work at the future. The journey is just beginning, but the passion of breeding work is even deeper. Breeding dogs requires patient planning and thinking. For this reason it should always remain as a small scale a hobby alongside all the rest of the life.

I do not frequently have litters, usually once a year and sometimes less, but when I do it is because I want something for myself out of a particular litter. Commercial litters are just not part of the breeding programme at Lifedream. It is simply too costly, too much work, and too draining emotionally to breed these dogs solely for the enjoyment of other people.

Now with all that said, to me, breeding requires a team work with other breeders, stud-dog owners and most of all with the people who own a Lifedream-dog. We have always open doors and often I raise my puppies with my former puppy owners. It is my intention to follow my dogs through their lifetime and that way discover an important information about them. I am hoping that all of my puppies would be examined after one year so that I as well as the owner would have more information about dogs healthy. I am also hoping that dogs would be mentaltested, MH-tested or/and participating herding tests. Every 3 years I am sending a short form to the owners so that I can follow the developments of my puppies. The opinion of the owners means a lot to me.

Puppies are ready to their new homes at the earliest 8-9 weeks of age. The age is determined with every puppy individually with time, when I see how they develop. Sometimes I might keep one puppy longer at home if it seems to need the time. I have given up the thought of producing litters from so-called "factory line", because as every litter is an individual, so might be the time they need to develop. Puppies are wormed, officially eye checked, veterinarian checked and microchipped. All the agreements are made at the Finnish Kennel Club papers.

Because I would like to know my future puppy owners, I would prefer that you would contact me as soon as possible. If at all possible, people should come to visit us, maybe even before the birth of the litter, so that we should have good and trusting ties.

I believe that in some breeds we have serious problems caused by too harsh inbreeding and I feel humble towards my position as a breeder. It is my aim to maintain and treasure the flexible qualities of the working breed, not to change it for the modern world. At the same time I want to give my own contribution to protect the original behaviour of the dog like different kind of instincts, normal reproduction and the power of it as well as social behaviour.

From the year 2008 I have been herding with my smooth collies to discover more about the abilities required for working herd dog. I am organizing herding days for my puppy owners several times a year. We are also training our dogs for searching, canicrossing, agility, obedience and what ever we feel interesting.
